A night of Cabbie-Okie and mocktails

Friday, 12th of February, 2010 - The Carlton, 193 Bourke Street, Melbourne. This is the venue where the evening began, some time later than expected due to E's lack of navigational nous. Along for this ride was the Sandman, who was more than happy to take up our offer of becoming a 'guest blogger' some time in the future. Upon arrival at the venue there was a significant trek up several flights of stairs, which (upon completion) saw a reward of four 'free drink' cards being distributed and gleefully accepted by our party. Being a non-drinker I polished off a couple of ginger beers, a raspberry lemonade and a lemon, lime and bitters. E and the Sandman, on the other hand enjoyed fine beer and wine on the house, sufficiently relaxing them for what was to be a night of high energy and intense choreography.

At approximately 6.30pm our hosts (Telstra employees) revealed that this was no ordinary karaoke evening we had got ourselves into - this was karaoke in the back of a maxi-cab rigged up to support the recording of the entire track of our choice - "Barbie Girl" by Aqua. This video can be seen on Youtube later this week and will be posted to the blog for your own viewing pleasure.

The event was awesome and these Taxis will be driving all around Melbourne for the next five weeks. Anyone is able to hail one of these cabs down and will receive a free ride as long as they sing for their fare! We thoroughly recommend doing so, it was great fun. Things were a little 'squeezy' considering we were all above 6ft 3, however, extremely enjoyable nonetheless.

I will leave the rest of the evening for E to describe in his own words. Starting with a suprise free cab ride (on Telstra) and ending with a few beverages at the Carlton Yacht Club on Lygon Street. They make a cracking berry juice mocktail!

Until next time,

Mr. Harvey
